Default Can this midrange's cone be repaired?

I have a pair of LPG paper cone 5.25" mid's and one of thier cones was torn (attached picture shows the damage). The tear is roughly 3/4". Is it posible to repair, somehow?

I can't remember the model (not that matters to this discussion) and don't have the specs. anymore. They were purchased from Madisound in the mid 90's. I e.mailed them last year (before the tear happened - they were mounted in a cabinet and in the garage when my step dad knocked them over) and they didn't have the specs. on file anymore.

I suppose if I were to fix it I'd probably have to test them to see what their new specs have become. I don't have any testing gear but could probably find someone who does. I really liked them. I suppose I should have better protected to driver. The other is still in it's original box.

Any help, if there is any to be had would be greatly appreciated!

Would the cone coating stuff available at Parts Express work?

WET LOOK BLACK

Or possibly "puzzelcoat" type stuff I've read Planet10 write of?

I assume I would coat the entire cone on both drivers and them test their new TS parameters somehow.

Why do I think that repairing the tear isn't going to change the TS parameters?

I don't know why you'd think that. That might have been a typo, I instead of you.

I'm assuming that coating the cones are going to change the damping caracteristics of the cones as well as change the mass and Fs, etc...

The question is sorta academic since I've projects on my plate at the moment, but can repair them at a later. Maybe.

You could use the coating, just apply no more then three coats so the you won't add lots of mass. Keep this in mind, to half the Fs you need to quadruple the membranes mass! So a bit of laquer won't harm the TSP, it will probably only dampen the membrane a bit more.

You can also just apply a bit of (paper) glue to the back of the membrane were the tear is. Paper glue stays flexable.
