Any idea's, Dynaudio issue
In 1991 I built a pair of Dynaudio Twynn speaker with Dynaudio 17 W-75 woofers. Over time, (in the past three years) the top drivers (mid-range speaker) on both pairs has started to rattle with music that has heavy base or if I play them a little loud. I am guessing that the voice coil is bad. Any feedback on if you think that is my problem? My real question is; Can I get them fixed? If so at about what cost? and by who? Or; What is a good replacement driver for the Dynaudio 17 W-75's that would work with my Dynaudio Twynn setup and be as good or better than the Dynaudio 17 W-75's . Thanks for the help, John.. |

That sucks! javascript:smilie('
')bawling Madisound used to offer Dynaudio Re-coning (they would ship them to Dynaudio). And that donesn't necessarily address your problem. But that was back when the were selling Dyn's. I don't know if they do that anymore. You could ask them, if you haven't already. It wasn't cheap, almost half the cost of the driver retail price, I think. Maybe you could convice Dynaudio to sell you a new pair (if they still make or have them anymore) by shipping your damaged ones to them with a box of chocolate or something.

I talked to a guy today and he said I could replace them with Morel MW 166 or maybe a Scan Speak driver. Any suggestions?
Thanks, John.. |

i recommend the scanspeak driver over the morel. nothing against the morel... its just because the dyn driver is more similar to the scanspeak driver than the morel. im assuming youre not going to completely rebuild the speakers, cabinets and all?

If you consider an alternative driver, I would model this first with your existing enclosures. The 17W75 is a strange beast with a very high Qt which needs either a large enclosure or a vario vent. Do I remember that the Twyn has vario vents? Easier to stick with the originals, you find them often on ebay, there is a pair there right now, I have my eyes on them too, since I have a set with these units in them. I do think that Dynaudio does repair them.
Good luck! Marco. |
