I want to build a cheap sub-sat system with a small sub for a friend of mine.
I was thinking about 5 small speakers using the W3-871S and a sub using the W5-876SA My only concern is the power handling of those W3-871. It's only 20 watts. Will that be a problem for home theater? They will use it in a room of about 4x5m at modest levels. Should I use a closed or vented box? Two drivers per box? For the rear speakers I wanted to build something like those mission surround speakers (like the md5s). with two drivers, each facing another direction. Any thoughts are welcome! |

This page (Zaph is a member here by the way) has a nice writeup on the 871 with several different cabinet variations, and some discussion on HT use. He has also designed a simple notch filter that apparently does quite a nice job at smoothing the speaker's response in any other those cabinets.
