Default L-Pad Question

If I use a series L-pad before the LF coil to attenuate the output of a woofer (such that the L-Pad is wired externally between the bi-wire terminals of my loudspeakers) will the impedance of the L-Pad be summed with that of the coil and alter the LF crossover frequency in anyway?

Yes. If you have to have an L Pad on a woofer it should go after the coil and even then it will affect the crossover to some degree. Using a pad to reduce the input to a woofer is a bad idea anyway. You're likely to burn up the pad and it will change the Q of the woofer.

Cheers Bill.

My speakers have an essentially dull balance and I’m looking to add a little more HF sparkle. Would removing the tweeter damping resistor (4.7ohm wired in series before the cap) be a better way to proceed? My speakers are rated at a nominal 8 ohms with minimum impedance around 4.5ohms.

Yes, remove the tweeter resistor and increase the cap value by about 30%.

I usually only see L-pads on tweeters. Is it possible and/or adivsable to use an L-pad on a widerange driver crossed to a woofer at say, 500hz?
