I have just aquired a set of four PYE HFA 12 (AKA pro-lab 100) speakers ($60!!), however I have discovered that a: all four have been apart before and b: two are wired with the woofer in phase with the midrange (and as I would expect from the colours of the wiring) and two are wired with the woofer out of phase...
These are large front ported cabinets with a seperate enclosure around the midrange. So, the question is which way is 'right' ie. how they would have likley come from the factory? I have listened to them with both configurations, and to me they seem to sound a little 'cleaner' with the woofer out of phase. But then I don't know what they are supposed to sound like... Any ideas? I know it's a long shot, maybe someone has a pair of these? Cheers. Steve. |
