Default Eros with different crossovers.

I am building Eros MTM.However I am not using the cross over mentioned in the design. I have some pre built crossovers which I got from a friend long back.I am not sure abt the inductor values used in the corssover.

Is it a good idea to use a different crossovers for a proven design?

No, especially when you don't even know what it is. You'll have no idea what frequencies the fitering for each driver is at, and how well they will integrate with each other. Furthermore, I believe that the Eros uses a notch to tame some resonance from the PL18 drivers, and I also belive it has some shaping going on for the tweeter.

If you're going to spend all that money for those good drivers, spend a couple bucks on the right crossover too.

Based on the amount of time and effort Wayne puts into his designs I think it is absolutely certain that using a stock crossover would be a terrible idea.

While you're at it, you may as well replace the drivers with whatever you find lying around... same for the box.

Default oops

I finally completed the speaker cabinets. But I have modified the design a bit. Instead of keeping 8 inches for the back panel I have retained 91/2 inches very similar to front panel. Since the inside volume may increase slightly I reduced the port size to 2.5 inches instead of 3 inches.

Guys I am newbie. Can someone comment If I am right here and also how to tune the port incase if it is wrong. I havent bought the dirvers yet.But the speakers will be driven by lm3886 based amps.Should I buy 8ohm drivers or 4ohms one?

I don't know. But if Wayne used an 8ohm, buy the 8 ohm. If he used the 4 ohm, buy the 4...

I read through Wayne's design. Note how he tunes by trial and error (measuring impedance whilst trimming port length) to get to his desired SBB4 38Hz tuning. This is what experienced designers do, because the math/simulation software seldom give the exact values.

Now that you've changed cabinet volume AND port diameter, I'm not sure if you're going to be replicate his 38Hz port tuning without measurements.

The best you could do is simulate your cabinet volume in via math/software, then apply some correction factor. Perhaps Wayne has something to say about this...

2.5" vs. 3" when dealing with diameters is a HUGE difference in area/volume. I would suggest keeping the 3", and just changing the length slightly, if at all, to compensate for the additional volume.
