Default Newbie DIY: Dead Response 1S Tweeter, what to do?

Hi guys,

Congrats on a great gem of a forum! I need help... (have done a search but can't find the info I need)

I am not even a newbie DIYer, never done it, but forced to do it because after 10 years of owning it, my once great Proac Response 1S has a dulled tweeter, from age I guess.

I pulled it apart and know it has a SS D2010 tweeter. My Q is, what would happen if I changed it from the D2010 to another type, say the SS Revelator, without changing the Xover settings?

Will it improve the sound or is this not recommended?

I live in Indonesia, so getting high Quality speaker parts is not easy, if some1 can recommend some online shops that is willing to ship internationally, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot,
Aswin.

If you can find a tweeter with very similar t/s specs (maybe one of the revelators?) you can use it but that is not likely.

You can get the d2010 from http://www.solen.ca/ or maybe from Proac.

Good luck.

You can get a replacement tweeter model D2010/8513 from any of the Scan Speak distributors around the world. There are some in Southeast Asia and Australia.

It is not possible to simply replace the 1s Proac tweeter with other models without changing the crossover filter network and the sound.

Yes, the Reponse 1S seems to use the D2010/8513-

And so does the clone

There is also the possibility of buying a spare dome for the broken driver.

Hi, Aswinp
I think D2010 is not hard to find in your country. If you could not, here is Madisound .
And this is an 1S clone DIY project that use another tweeter.

Good luck,
Santi

I will first try to find the D2010/8513 locally, barring that I'll try ordering from Madisound.

Thanks for all the help.

When I found out that my tweeter went soft on me, I was thinking of upgrading my 1S with the B&W Signature 805 or the Paradigm Signature S2 (great review here http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/p...gnature_s2.htm)

But I think I've caught the DIY bug....... I think I'll try Al.M's post with a Proac2.5 clone as my first DIY project.

Signature 805 such a good & pretty speaker. It a dream speaker of many people but only few can reach.

2.5 is a proved project. You may happy with it and save a lot of money.

Default Hehe.

I agree. If you like the 1s and know the ProAc family sound, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the original Response 2.5 clone. Follow Al's website closely- use the 8513 tweeter and final recommended crossover shown at the bottom of the crossver page.

I built the clone after hearing the ProAc Studio 125 at my local Hifi dealer. The clone is potentially as good or better than the commercial, for only a fraction of the cost.

Watch out though, once you start building speakers you may catch the DIY bug and want to build more!

Now I want to build speakers of all sizes. In our family home, we have speakers in 4 different rooms. I'm aiming to replace each and very one of them.

Maybe some more speakers for rooms already with speakers.
