Default Crossovers & LPads

Just a clarification on crossover design. I understand how LPads don't change the crossover frequency with crossover networks, but if you don't use a LPad and just put a resistor in series with the speaker, does this resistence need to be included in the crossover calculation ? EG. If F = 1/(2Pi c R) and the speaker impedance is 8 ohms, and a 4 ohm resister is placed in series, should R = 8 + 4 ?

thanks guys

Before the XO, no. Between the XO and driver, yes.

Unless it's a first order network as you described. In that case is doesn't matter where the resistor is placed in series.
