Default bzdang question for Peerless HDS 182

bzdang,
Saw in an earlier post that you have experience with the Peerless HDS 182 6-1/2". I am looking to make a two-way speaker similiar to the Kestrel2, and I would like to use the HDS with the ScanSpeak 9300. Any comments and suggested XO point and values for a first order crossover appreciated. Thanks

Im doing a design of the 182 with phaseplug and the scanspeak 95. Waiting for some wire to arrive so I can make the coils.

Hi AllCaster, 5th, I'm a terrible guy to ask about crossovers, being a kxproject dsp heretic. Been listening with LR4 crossover at around 2.3k, and baffle step correction by way of a -3dB hi-shelf at around 600Hz for my narrow baffles. The BSC is important because moving closer to a wall will enhance the deep bass (at least some notes) but not help the midbass. Very satisfying bass can be had but it will be dependent on location in the room, you will have to stand your ground with the wife once you find the right spots.
All of these crossover parameters are very easy to adjust if you use a soundcard dsp [search for my posts], and if you wish, you can implement the end result with a passive crossover. Build one box, tweak it to life, then make it's mate and the crossovers. Use the mouse wheel to vary the crossover point and try to hear where the woofer and tweeter are happiest together. I have listened to mangers, raven ribbon, rca1428b, all are terrifyingly good through this little lunchbox pc. The Kxproject dsp crossover, biamped, gives all kinds of control and freedom to experiment. Lets you use your ears to find the right crossover, there will be one setup that you keep going back to, and that's the one to keep.

I like the look of that Kestrel2, solves the angle problem that leads me to put a hockey puck under the front of the plinth on my speakers. Maybe I should buy some more plywood....
