Question for TL Specialists

Hi all,

A bit about myself : I am a stickler for mid-bass. This is why I am quite partial to transmission line speaker designs. My current system consists of a Yamaha RX-596 with two homebuilt speakers (three-ways, with two woofers per speaker, transmission line design) and a homebuilt sub unit. I am elated with my speakers' mid-bass response but otherwise quite disappointed, and every time I've had a chance to sample a simple two-way speaker, I have loved the sound. (The best sound I have ever heard, believe it or not, was when I worked at a radio station - our two-way Yamaha studio monitors had a gorgeous sound, I thought.)

This is why I have been considering building a pair of Ed Frias' DIY speakers, which have garnered rave reviews, from what I can gather. So my question to you TL specialists is :

Would there be a way to design a transmission line enclosure for this speaker, all the while preserving the inherent richness of its midrange and highs?

Unfortunately, much of what most folks consider richness is actually harmonic distortion and compression.

A TL won't change the highs, but it can have a drastic effect on the midrange - usually for the better. Typically, the sound is subjectively cleaner, more dynamic and lifelike. Yet, it is possible you'd prefer the sound of sealed.
