Is there a rule of thumb to buying grill fabrics? I'd like to buy a few yards but the shipping is more than the freakin' cost of the fabric, so I'm tempted to run down to the local "fabrics-r-us" to buy some.
I'm sure they'll look at me like I'm a coke crazed leper when I ask for "acoustically transparent" cloth. Any input? Any good subsitutes, or I'm stuck with buying from Parts express or madisound etc... |

Apparently... Burlap although ugly and dusty as the space underneath my bed
... is quite good. Some guy looked at that vs speaker grill cloth and the speaker grill cloth reflected high frequencies quite a bit... BTW we call it Hessian and it's available in various weave densities... Veddy cheap... and the fabric store lady won't look at you funny... unless you're in America and call it Hessian... So how do you ask someone what size stockings they wear???

I do not think any lady would have a pantyhose that would fit a 24"X24"X48" each leg!!

Yikes...this thread got a bit out of hand and has left me scarred with mental images of things that should not be.
I suppose fabric is cheap enough...I can perform a few tests myself. |

"I do not think any lady would have a pantyhose that would fit a 24"X24"X48" each leg!!" Unless you are using it as some sort of speaker contraceptive why don't you stretch it over a flat frame it'll get 24"wide... as for the tall.... maybe a few smaller frames...
PS use cheap ones (stockings), not silk... silk was once used to tune BR ports to avoid mid and tweet do not exit at port... that might be usefull as contraceptives....

I've always used double knit polyester. It's very transparent and when stapling to a frame can be stretched a bit which will ensure that it's tight and wrinkle free. Any fabric store will have it.
