Default Gear to use SoundEasy

For several reasons, I want the additional features of SoundEasy (over Spkr Workshop).

SW needs a jig to work ‘right’ (I have a Walin jig).

Does SE need a jig?? If so, can the SW jig be used or easily modified?

I imagine that the choice of soundcard is most important (?)
Which soundcard that allows more features ( eg Delta 410 from M-Audio, FireWire 410, from M-Audio, Layla24, Darla24, Gina from Echo Digital?) &
which microphone (Behringer ECM 8000?) have people used or is a good choice?

Thanks

(JPK) You don't need a jig but you do need a mic preamp. Frankly the easyest way to go is with the BESL mic/probe preamp. It has 2 channels that will allow you to connect it to both sound card line in channels and will provide the proper load to the sound card. The "IN" channel can be switched between normal and mic input (bias supply for mic capsule). For mics I' also go with a Kim G mic also available from BESL, $240 for the peramp/mic package

http://www.bamberglab.com/mic_probe_preamp.shtml ,

or if you don't want to spend that much money get a calibrated mic capsule from Kim G and make the mic yourself, http://www.libinst.com/micassem.htm

Thanks John
though I have a mic preamp, one is built into a small Behringer mixing console (UB 802?) I have.
Any comments on the Behringer ECM 8000 mikes, only I believe c. US$40?

The big cost is the soundcard, to use all the potential of the package.
They – listed before - (though Delta 410 I've learnt is obsolete) are all it seems US$400+!

Thanks

(JPK) I don't know anything about the Behringer mic. As for sound cards, you migh look around for a Delta 410. Various venders have been selling them off for about $99. I believe Newegg has then for $89. Don't know if any are left though.

But it depends what you want to do with the card. If you are only interested in measurements then any basic sound card should work fine. Still, if you can get a 410 for $89 I'd sure go for it.

Default M-Audio Delta 410 audio outs

I’ve just received a Delta 410 by mail order.
Before I wrip it open, the box states 8 analog outputs, but the *illustration on the box shows only *2 audio outs on the connector to the PCI card.

Just want to be sure – how many analog audio outs does the Delta 410 handle?

Cheers

The 410 does indeed have 8 channels of analog out. It uses a breakout cable that connects to the DB25 (at least I think it's a DB25) port for the analog connections, which is why you don't see the 'right number' of connectors on the PCI card.

Default let me know

Rick, let me know how the measurement capabilities of SE are with the use of that pre-amp, mic, and soundcard. I already have the same pre-amp and mic.

Alas it may take a little while, I think I‘ll have to get an extra PC, as the kids have taken over the existing one. Maybe Januray.

The Delta 410 is recommended with SE - Have you checked or posted in the Yahoo SE Forum
Cheers
