Default 3-way active (adaptable) loudspeaker design

Some people here were asking me about the active 3-way system that I was going to put details of on Decibel Dungeon.

Well, after a lot of work, it is there! I apologise for the quality of the diagrams but they have been scanned in from old photocopies and are also a bit on the large side so you will have to be patient if you are on dial-up (like me).

Just a few words before you click on the link. This is not my design. It belongs to Christof Heinzerling and was originally published in Electronics World magazine. Christof has kindly given me permission to put it on DD.

I wanted to include it because it looks like a good design. I am a fan of active speakers, and when chip amps are used, they are much more affordable. The design is compact and has a high WAF, is full-range, and is also tried and tested.

Add in the factor that there are three designs using different sets of drivers, and the formulae to allow other drivers to be used, and I hope that you will agree, it is worthy of consideration.

Anyway, for those interested, you can find the article here .

I read the article and found it very interesting. Styropor is expanded polystyrene, the editor had some letters of enquiry regarding this. The crossover is interesting too, I'm going to try it on a three way I'm working on now, but without the sub bass eq.
It's a very nice and unusual design, thanks for reminding me of it.
