Do we need another MTM/TMM design?
I have been working to document the design challenges of acoustically coupled drivers in line arrays. As I have worked toward that goal, some interesting ideas have occured along the way.
As I documented the performance of the M driver with a simple two driver coupling and crossed it over to a tweeter, I found that with the offset needed to transiently align the drivers and the woofers natural crossover frequency allowed for the front loading of a couple of tweeter models in a simple tube. This meant that you could transiently align on a flat baffle.
One tweeter was a small profile cloth dome by Tang Band. The small mounting plate of the tweeter allowed very close spacing of the woofers, with the tweeter either in between or just off to one side of the woofers.
While there are some problems to work out, the combination works in the test jig. Before I spent the time and energy on building prototypes, I wonder if we need another MTM or TMM or MMT? There are so many versions of this basic design, is anyone interested in a slightly different version?
I have attached test jig performance graphs that show the remaining problems.
Good desiging and good building,
Mark
