Oval cabinets

I posted on this topic a few minutes ago, but danged if I know where it went. Are oval cabinets a reasonable idea?

The answer before was yes, that non-parallel surfaces prevent standing waves. You want to avoid dimensions and shapes that result in focusing reflections at the back of the cone which can be even more detrimental to SQ than standing waves in a rectangular box.

As a side note; I heard a pair of speakers made from old bowling balls (no finger holes ). The builder bored a ~4" hole straight through the bowling ball and mounted Adire AV3s on them. They sounded extremely good. So, while the exterior was a sphere, the interior was not.

That reminds me of these. I heard them in Las Vegas and was stunned. I kept looking around for the subwoofer. Excellent imaging. It uses a coax driver with EQ in a molded composite enclosure. My second favorite speaker at THE Show.
