Default T/S Parameter unknown

Hi,

I'm designing a 2-way speaker and WinISD is asking me for a "Pe" value (W), I assumed that the value is the power of the driver however when I enter 110W the vent calculations are astronomical (unrealistic and cannot fit inside the enclosure).

Could somebody tell me what Pe is and how I could work it out from the specs (I am using Peerless 850488). Thank you!

Hello muhy3, I found your Peerless driver on the Parts Express website, and it gives 110 watts RMS/155 watts max. I'll paste the link here;

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=297-642&DID=7

This link also has a .PDF spec sheet for your driver, just click on the "Specifications" tab in the link. Good luck and hope this helps!

Joe

Pe as you know is the stated power handling in watts RMS.
Obviously Winisd has been configured to try to keep the speed of the air in the port at a very low speed, which results in very large and long port recommendations. Try putting in a more sensible figure ( I would very rarely listen to my stereo at more than 20 watt RMS).
Or ignore the rec' port size and recalculate using another programme.

Thank you, I had the information already I just wasn't sure if Pe was referring to the power, I did more searching through yahoo and found a website which explained the term 'Pe'.

Thank you for the prompt and helpful reply though.

When you are done mucking around in WinISD see how close you are to the Peerless recommended sizes.

Great driver BTW.

madinoz/rabbitz have you both used this driver, or heard it before? because I will be using it in a 2-way vented enclosure. I worked out 8L 72.69Hz vent diam: 50mm, length: 100mm which works out both in dimentions that I would like and available size port since mucking around with pvc as I did with the subwoofer is too much of a hassle. I dont mind that the tuning is high because I made a subwoofer that will rock anybody's world.... peerless 12" xls.

None the less, thank you for the advice, this forum is very informative and helpful. :-)

I've done a few speakers with this driver and it's shielded cousin the 850528. Very well behaved, easy to do crossovers for, sounds excellent and had a better bass performance than I expected.

The best performance I got was in 11.3 litre, Fb=65Hz, 58 dia x 120 port (Jaycar CX2688), F3=65Hz. Also did one with a 50.8 dia port x 88 from PVC pipe. Had a small peak at 70Hz but added a bit of extra warmth.

Well this driver's got 2 votes, madinoz and me.

Cheers
