Hi guys !
Any of you made a corrson speaker kit ? I believe corrson also has anpother line of speakers called Acoustic Portrait and kits are available for those as well. How do they compare with the speakers available today ? tks, Manek (mumbai) |

Manek,
I have heard his Acoustic Portrait speakers. They are good. Worth it. I bought TC18 woofers (4 nos) and D27TG tweeters (2 nos) to make my MTM speaker system. Cheers, Vivek Phadnis

Thanks vivek for your response.
Are they really as good as speakers twice their price as stated by Corsson in a couple ads I've seen ? To give you an idea, I wanted to do a DIY project on my own. Since this is my first solo project I thought maybe do a kit and get the feel of building speakers. My current speaker pair is Cadence so I want to build something which has the potention of coming close to them. Ofcourse once built tweaking for improvement will be the order of the day. Or do you suggest just buying the accesories from Corrson and do my own thing with the design ? Manek. |

manek,
i have used the TC series drivers (18cm and tweeter) and they ae good VFM but they cannot compare to the Cadence. Corrson I have heard produce good stuff and I believe that their kits would be well worth the moeny as well as the learning excercise but it would be a great dis-service to compare them to Cadence given the price difference and the audience they cater to.

Navin,
I did not intend to do cadence any dis-service as I am a major Cadence fan myself and I know what their speakers can do :-). Secondly, I was thinking of doing the corrson kit based on the VIFA aluminium dome with the vifa PJ17 6.5 mid bass. These kits are actually speakers called Acoustic Portrait by Corrson(www.acousticportrait.com) which are a level above the kits with the TC drivers. So what I want to know is whether the Acoustic Portrait range matches up and if not how close does it come, as I am used to a particular quality of sound and wanted to guage how much of a hit in sound quality would I take. On a scale of 10 if cadence were 10, what would Acoustic Portrait be ?(not the TC driver kit). tks manek. |

Even I had a couple of listening sessions at CORRSON..infact Vivek as well was present.
I can't comment on how his kits fare but the speakers he had on audition were quite well. The decision to buy kits is upto you. If you can manage the necessary woodwork(or whatever u decide to make a baffle out off), then i guess u can go in for just the drivers. If u need XO's, plans for p17 D25 i have them, or if u decide to go with TC18 D25(MtM or tMM not too sure..) Vivek might be able to help you out. In my opinion, the extra money you might spend on P17 is worth it. Also P17 is a famous driver, you shouldnt have any problems looking for information on the web. ajju |

The P17 and D25 are a notch (maybe 2) above the TC and if you want to go one more notch higher you could mate the M18 with the D25AG35 of D27TG45. these number are old and from memory so they might have changed. I believe this design is published on the web somewhere. Some believe the M18 is a better woofer than the P17 because it has a low loss surround. enjoy. BTW please take all I say with 2 table spoons of salt. 1 sppon because I am old and senile and type this from that inefficient memory and 2 because I am now enamoured with fullranges and have begun to ignore multiway systems. 2 P17s = $80 2 D25AG35 = $60 2 XOs = $60 cost = $200 = cost of 2 Fostex FX120 and for $270 I can get two Jordan JX92.

When do you need them...Rt nw im out of the country and doubt if i have them with me...!! I'll check up my backups and let u know..!
I do agree Naveen..but i guess its a question of local availability... i dont think corrson stocks any big drivers other than P17 and Tc18... they also have got some seas drivers...but the price would be aroun 5x that of the vifa's.. ajju |
