crossover mounting inside box?

Hi!

I'm in the middle of building my first set of speakers.

Due to the WAF, they are relatively small.

Now, I'll have to mount the crossover inside the box (WAF!), but since it is a small box (.18cu ft - 5 liter), the filter components will only be about 4,5" - 12 cm away from the backside of the mid/woofer.

Will this give me any problems?

The filter will be built as the attached pic. Is this OK?

For small boxes you don't have a great deal of options and behind the woofer, at the bottom of the cabinet or at the side is OK.

What you want to do is have the inductors at right angles to each other (one flat, one standing up) and at least 75mm apart. A good idea for small boxes is to put the tweeter xo at the top of the box near the tweeter and the woofer xo at the bottom of the box near the woofer. Helps avoid magnetic coupling between the inductors.

I'll try to mount one coil at the top of the cabinet, and the other one at the back. This way, one will be standing up and it will require less space on the back.

It has been fun building my speakers so far. I hope the crossover won't ruin that!

You may have issues with the inductor values changing as well, if they interact with any of the iron or magnet in the drivers. It may be fine, just something to be aware of if it doesn't sound the same with stuff mounted in the box.

Perhaps you could make a set of stands that go with the speaks and mount the XO in the stand base or something.
