Default Newbie ? on Baby Advent diagosis

Hi,

I recently purchased a pair of Baby Advents on Ebay. And I know this will shock you! - but they don't work properly. Dang, and it said "excellent condition".

The problem is the same on both speakers. The tweeter is barely audible. I have to put my ear right next to them to hear the faint, tinny sound.

The drivers had been replaced with Boston Accoustics A-40's, and sound really good, but the overall sound is of course, pretty muffled without the tweeters.

They are the original tweeters, and look cosmetically to be in great shape.

I have a small speaker torn out of a pair of headphones that I keep around for testing. I removed the original tweeter on one of the speakers, and hooked up my extra speaker, and got the same faint, tinny sound.

I then hooked the orignal tweeter up to the leads on the driver, and got the faint, tinny sound.

From this can I conclude that both the cross-over and the tweeter are bad? Sounds unlikely, but I admit that I'm a newbie, and that my diagnostic tests may not be the greatest.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would investigate the crossover or the tweeter level switch.
