I like the visual design advantages of Transmission Line speakers, round and/or slender and whatnot. However, I know that TLs are generally a design for smooth, extended bass response, which I currently enjoy.
Nevertheless, I'm designing some speakers for my wife's living room, and they have to be small and attractive. I ran the TANG BAND W3-879S 3" SHIELDED DRIVER through MJKs mathcad for a closed-end TL (no taper in the initial modelling). The results are wacky, with nearly 45° of F's beginning at 5K, meaning, TL with 3" is no-go. Am I seeing this correctly? Thanks, Dave |

If you want to use a 3" driver go with the W3-871S. Much better highs. A TL for the 871 is;
L=16 So = 18.5 sq in SL = 18.5 Sqin Zdriver = 8 Rport = .5" Lport = 1" Zport = 15" Stuffing ~.3 I have a design for a floor standing FE103E bipole TL if you're interested. It's about 32" high so that might be more than you're looking for. |

Hi Dave,
I did a mini-TML for the Fostex FF85K (with some help by GM). Measurements showed it to be pretty near the MJK simulations for an untapered ML-TQWT. F3 is somewhere ~ 80 Hz. For size look at picture (dims in cm).

In this months issue of HobbyHifi, they have also a TL for a Tangband unit. http://www.lautsprechershop.de/hifi/lancetta.htm
They also made the Picolino with a small Vifa unit. http://www.lautsprechershop.de/hifi/picolino.htm |

Willikers. No sub necessary for casual listening, eh? Dave |

This one is similar to one I was imagining as I fell asleep last evening. Dave |

She wants to have music, but would like to tuck the speakers away on the floor behind couches and in corners. I have objected to that, and I think that something elegant will be a nice compromise. Dave |

since most women donīt seem to look for much bass (or SPL) in their music it might be ok with no sub. Having the speaker near/at wall/corner certainly will help too. BTW: What does "Willikers" mean? Couldnīt find it in the dic.
