Default Matching Ribbon ( planars ) with cone woofers??

I would like to have thoughts about mixxing those u different technology together ...

i will be building a loudspeaker system for a friend of mine in october, i have lots of things planned.

What i want to build is a < 7' array of 5-6.5" woofers + ribbons
2 way system !

I want to know if it is a good idea to try and match ribbons with woofers?

I would like to be able to use cheap stuff from parts express ...

such as :

BOHLENDER GRAEBENER NEO8PDR PLANAR TRANSDUCER

Click the image to open in full size.

maybe 2 of those on each side probably near the middlle

can you recommend those units?

would like to use it from 5KHz+

since it looks extremely stable in impedance load,
it should be easier to match for amplification ?
( wich will be from the same amp for both mid and highs)

still not sure about matching this to cone woofers

woudl i be better using cheaper textile tweeters?
but alot of them ?

btw..it will be an open baffle type ( dipole )

thanks all

Hi,

I think this has been discussed here before....
Maybe a local search will unearth some of it.

Nonetheless, it's certainly possible but you'll need a very fast woofer.
One way is to use a dipole, open baffle system with a subwoofer if the lowest bass is a must.

Quite often arrays of smaller woofers are used to improve transient response in conjunction with a ribbon mid/high ribbon.

Either way, when the match is successful you're not likely to return to a conventional box system IMO.

Cheers,

ahah
thank you,
this is my planned route

Will be using multiple drivers ( maybe 8 or 12.. )
for the woofer area

what kind of frequency separation i should be using
with this kind of 2 way setup ?

is 5khz a good point?

i'll do more searches, dind't find much info on the last ones ..
i'll broaden it a bit

This dude uses Dali Dacapo

The DD's mod. with a pair of Gamma VLD-12 ribbon-tweeters (14KHz/6dB) horn removed, active subwoofer takes over the task below 80Hz
