Default Does anyone know the G500 18" ?

Hi there, this is my first posting and there are a few good reasons why I registered with a British audio board.

We are a three-piece band from Germany and we have experimented with equipment from the UK, especially in the bass. We have used TSE 118s copies and initially put Eminence speakers in them. That sounded terrible.
Then we used Fane Colossus, which has been fine until recently when we came across some horncabinets with speakers in them that read 'G500' on them. Also the horncabinets are different from the TSEs as they have an inner resonance wall that goes in an angle rather than being round (scooped). Is there anyone who can tell me anything about the speakers ? What about the T-S parameters ?

Hello Saxoman

Welcome Aboard!

A picture is worth a thousand words, and, would be helpful.

For, I have no idea what speaker or cabinet you are refering
to.

Best Regards,

Here are some photos of the speakers . We found a label on one of the speakers which said Wembleyloudspeakers. Is that the origin ?

As I said the equipment looks like junk, but it sounds much better than our TSE118/Fane Colossus combination.

We would be grateful if anyone could identify the speakers. Or maybe someone has the specs .......

G500 is a typical Celestion designation, and -- except for the blue color -- looks much like the 15" Celestions we used in bass bins in the early 80s.

Ah, TSE118s, how many of those have I thrown in and out of gigs...

The Wembleys are copys of the TSE118s, (but then again just about every single 18 horn is a derivative of this, and I'm sure the Turbos were not the originals, just the best known), but with straight horn flare panels for cheaper construction.

Drivers that work well in these boxes are the JBL 2226, and Precision Devices 1800/1/2, and a Fane 18" that has just slipped my mind right now...

Actually,

Celestion's frames always have their named embroiderd
on the frame.

It could be a Goodmans, for they used the same frame
as Celestion.

You may need to contact Celestion, for they will know
if its theirs or not.

Also, the cabinet it came out of, can give you a ballpark
estimate where the speaker stands in the TS Parameters.

If it is indeed Celestion, your looking at a QTS anywhere
from 0.2 - 0.3, a fs around 33 - 30Hz, and a xmax of 3.25 mm

If it's a Goodmans, I wish you good luck, for specs are
hard to find on their speakers.

I've also, noticed the recone date is 2001. Well, that frame
was Celestion's frame in the 80's. So............. there's a good
chance that speaker was reconed using a different brand all
together.

I remember seeing a few years back, a Fane cone in a Celestion
frame on Ebay (The Frame was exactly like yours but black)
stating, "Fresh Recone"

You may find it better to find the reconer, for he will know the
TS Numbers.

Perhaps you could post the same question in the Einsteiger section of www.pa-forum.de. Some people with lots of experience/knowledge about PA speakers post on that forum and you might get lucky. If the speaker is suspected to be of English construction, you might want to try the forum at www.speakerplans.com . The G also let me think it might be an older Beyma.

P. Audio usually uses blue cast baskets. You might have a look at www.paudio-europe.com. But otherwise I have no clue as to what this could be.
