Default what makes some speakers good and some awful?

hello. the topic pretty mcuh explains my question...

what are some factors that make some speakers sound excellent while others of similar construction sound not near as good?

i know that cone material would make a difference...and magnet size...but what else factors into what makes a driver excellent and what makes a driver awful...

i know this is a pretty broad question...

The two main things that make a speaker sound terrible are resonance and distortion.

there are a lot of factors to consider which can cause distortion. cone/dustcap stiffness, basket rigidity, non linear suspension, box material, basically anything in a speaker can cause it.

Unfortunately, a couple of illustrations are missing but nonetheless, there's lots of info.

I was talking about drivers, not the boxs. Any matter has a resonance. Some materials have self damping properties such as polypropolyne. Others have resonances at frequencies out of the range of the driver. The mechanical springs that make up a drivers suspension also have certain resonances.
