Lightbulb BUNCH of questions from a newbie

1.Every time I go to the high end audio store here in town they ask me what type of music I listen to.
Shouldn't a good set of speakers be able to handle ALL types of music well?

2. Plexiglass/Acrylic in home audio speakers? Ever been done before? Pics?

3. Where can I get info on what all those speakers spec's mean? Fmax and Q and all that jibber.

4. Whats a good ratio of air and sound batten inside a speaker?

5. Air volume-Some speaker specs call out a reccomended volume...is this cumaltive? (i.e one speaker calls for 4 liters of air volume..if you use two speakers---do you use 4 or 8 liters?)

Yes. An accurate loudspeaker should be able to handle any type of music. But I guess if someone only listened to background music it would not make sense to buy huge floorstanders.
Plexiglas is difficult to machine, for one (drilling holes is a pain), and its bound to cost more than wood.
You can get some info here. Download the Designing Bass Reflex Loudspeakers.

The amount of damping material inside depends on the design. A properly sized reflex enclosure, for instance, only needs one layer to damp standing/reflected waves. A small sealed box may be completely filled to increase the apparent size of the box.

Yes, if you use two drivers, the displacement needs to double as well.
