Is it necessary to use shielded drivers if you are using a DLP TV?
I am trying to help a friend build a home theater system for his house. He is wanting to stay under $600.00 for all speakers including sub. I was looking at the Dayton home theater setup on speakerbuilder.net, but I know he would like a little more bass up front. If the tv doesn't need shielded speakers I will probably build three of the Dayton budget 2-ways on his site for the front and 2 of the HT speakers for the rear. If it does need shielded speakers, could anyone recommend a good 2-way design that will still play relitively deep while keeping the cost down? Thanks, Ross |

I don't know what a DLP TV is, but the only display that requires shielded drivers is the traditional cathode ray tube - and this is because it uses magnetic deflection, so external magnetism means that electrons land in the wrong places, giving purity errors.

As I understand DLP, it's a light projector system that uses a chip with multiple small mirrors to generate the image. So you shouldn't need magnetic shielding.
There's a link here. mk |
