Thats a good looking sub. I assume EBS is extended bass shelf? And that is a 10" correct? Kappa or reference?

Yes it is an extended bass shelf system. According to the plot, it has a -3dB point of 23hz. It's a 10" Reference 1030w car sub.

Hey Solid! KILLER SUB! I had an idea using the same subs, as I can get them from work (Circuit City) for $32 each new, or $38 for the 12s. Only problem is the specs on it are decent, but not as good as some of the better home subs, although the Infinity subs are WAAY cheaper.

To test the hz, are you using a signal generator? Any chance you could measure the output per hz with an SPL meter, if you have one? If not, I'll forgive you

One last thing...did you use something like WinISD to get the box parameters, AND....hehe....can you test the lowest hz. you feel is still getting good output?

Sorry to be a pain. I'm just contemplating 4 of the 12" for $150, and even with a small 200w plate amp, they would put out an unreal amount of bass!

THANKS!

Wow, you've got some good deals on those subs. I got two for $105 at CC. I chose the 10's over the 12's because the 12's require a MUCH bigger box to get the same tuning, probably because of a larger compliance. Yes I do have a signal generator, both software and hardware. I used WinISD to make this sub but I checked the results against my own program (based on diysubwoofers.org equations) and the results were identical. I don't have an SPL meter.

I'm not sure if the sub or my ears roll off first but it goes LOW.

4 subs seems waste of money and space no? Even one of those subs will take 200w.

My first priority in making this box was being able to hit the lowest notes. When compared to the 12's the 10's have slightly reduced output but their lower compliance makes up for it.

I play this game on my linux box called frozen bubble, it's soundtrack has some deep subtle bass in it. My college buddies live below and next to me and when I play this game at night (even at low volumes) they complain. It doesn't seem that loud to me but I guess the really low notes just soak right through the drywall.

I made a low-pass high-level crossover that piggybacks onto my main receiver. It uses caps (not inductors) so the rolloff is somewhere between 1st and 2nd order I think. It also mixes the left and right channels. This leads to a small Fisher receiver that powers the sub, it's good for about 100w.

For in-home subs, get the 10 incher!!! Unless you don't mind refrigerator-sized subs, because that's the only way the 12 will be going low. Besides, it's just plain cool for curious guests to pop their heads in after hearing the rumble and say "that's only a TEN?!?!?"
