Default Peerless 850467 & SS D2905/95...

Ive had these driver lying around for a while so decided to put them to use and make something of them. I intend on trying to sell them to the public. I dont know how this will work but it would be nice if they sold.

These are just the boxes in "test phase", I didnt want to bother veneering anything incase the box didnt suit the driver. I decided to take the advice given by a few people with the box - make the box smaller then the design program predicts and tune lower, thus increasing power handling and lower group delay. The boxes are around 13 litres tuned to about 40hz maybe a little lower and lightly stuffed with BAF wadding.

The bass these things put out is outstanding given the size, easily doing justice to 40hz. And it is very tight. They also do handle lots of oomph.

I cant really say much else because currently I am just using the KX project to do the xovers. I now need to measure them and bring LSPcad upto full steam. But if the results are anywhere near as good as the sound im getting now they are going to be a very nice sounding speaker.

The pictures are really self explanitory.

Hi

The Peerless seems to have a steep rising response above 1200 Hz and breakups. Is that a problem for crossover design and do they sound good in the mids? What crossover are you using right now.

Right at the moment, im using an xover at about 2.3k 2nd order electrical on both tweet and midbass. I added a notch at about 4k to help supress the peak. Im betting I may be able to get around the peak thru some xover fiddling when I actually design the xover.

The mids of this driver really are very nice, however if you dont want to tackle the rising response you could just use the version without the phase plug.

The problem with the kx drivers for the soundblaster emu chips is its a bit hit and miss.

I dont have a clue what the overall slopes are like on the drivers, I could have 3rd order on the tweet and 3.5 order on the midbass etc. I mainly use the KX just as a quick tool to give some idea of what I can expect from drivers.

Im sure most of you out there would be surprised at how good it actually sounds using the soundblaster card DSP and then its DAC's and output stages. Appart from a high noise floor the sounds is certainly very enjoyable.
