hi, i just upgraded my speakers from a set of Advents to some Epos bookshelves. The dealer recommended to put them on 24" stands, to obtain the optimal imaging properties the speakers can produce. However, the only stands he had in the store were a $200 pair, and a $220 pair. Has anybody made some nice looking heavy stands for a reasonable price? Thanks!

for about $50, you can go to Garden Ridge (or a crafts store like Michaels or MJ Designs), and buy those white plaster columns. Their not DIY, but they look descent, and their usually about 24"-28" tall, and have fairly large pedestals.
Maybe spray some expanding foam inside or something. Also pour over this thread for some more ideas. Speaker Stand Thread

I made some from MDF and 4" plastic pipe filled with sand. Stable, heavy and good looking.

Speaker Builder had an article a few years back on stnads that were built from PVC pipe with wood base and platforms. Filled with sand for stability and your good to go for very little money.
You could go crazy like I did when I had more money than sense and use 2x4" steel, 3/8" thick filled with sand and 3/8'' base and platforms but it isn't neccessary.

Marble and other natural stone is great for stands and platforms for audio equipment.

that's right! nice view, heavy and steady stand for same money. acoustic properties allow to make a perfect acoustic camera, without damping, bounce, vibration problem

Here's a link to a finnish forum. There's a lot of pictures so it doesn't matter if you don't understand the language.
http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forums/showthread.php?t=7896 I made 4 of these but sold them to a friend. I rather use Dynaudio Stand2. http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forums/attach...achmentid=2372 |
