For just an additional $100.00 (here in Cant'ada) you could almost buy a sheet of plywood and a can of paint. With much labour you could cover these and say you made them DIY! Is there a term referring to the opposite of "Value Added"?
That consumer electronics biz sure is competitive. I want to manufacture hi-end loudspeakers as a paying job but could never compete with stuff like this. Anyone who's audio needs can be fulfilled with such cheap speakers should I guess consider themselves fortunate. I require much more from my speakers than this type of product can deliver. These speakers are probably good enough to place curbside and provide music for the garbageman as he comes by.
