Default Grill Magnets

I'm going to use some rare earth magnets to secure my grills to the baffle.

There's several techniques I can use.

a) a magnet in the grill as well as a magnet in the baffle - strong bond

b) magnet in baffle, metal object, say, a screw in the grill

c) reverse of b

I'm using 10mm x 3mm (3/8" x 1/8", w x d) magnets.

Grills will be quite light but long at around 1200mm x 300mm (4' x 1')

Thinking of using 4 anchor points.

Questions:

Is a) overkill?

In a) or b) am I in danger, over time, of having the magnet create a slight bump in the baffle due to it's strong attractive force, even if I epoxy it in an bury it slightly below the surface?

Also, can these little magnets exert enough force to disrupt the functioning of my drivers?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Mos

It's not overkill. I'm doing the same thing now and have found that there's a huge difference between field strength and field density. The density on these little magnets is high, but the overall strength isn't. The field strength drops off rapidly with distance - enough that I'm using 4 pairs of magnets on a relatively small (8" x 12") grille. I don't think the magnets will pull out of the baffle - epoxy is strong stuff. Because the field strength drops off so quickly with distance, it shouldn't affect your drivers.

Your idea's good, but it might be overkill in the sense that magnetic catches (as fitted to cupboard doors) do the job perfectly well, are easily fitted, and are craftily constructed to take up a certain amount of unevenness in fitting.
