Default what can make a passive cross over not work ? (explained)

i took the botton out of the definitive speaker

it has the crossover mounted to the back side.

i removed the woofers

2 different kinds that were installed in the cabinet and test them with a aa battery test i made

they work.

(now)

when i hook the speaker up to an amp

only the tweeters play.

not the woofers

so i tried testing different spots on the circuit (around choke coil)and still no sound.

the board looks okay.

except maybe the hot glue around copper winded choke is sort of loose, but nothing wrong visually with board.

it has some resistors on the board a yellow looking capcitor and the choke, and useual cross over stuff.

what can i check to sleuth the problem

thank you.

Ceramic like impedance resistor?

You mean something that looks like this thing?

I would think you would test that with a simple meter. Just use the "ohms" scale.

First check if the woofer is OK by connecting it directly to the amp (by-passing the crossover). Should give you sound up to it's roll off frequency. If they play then it's in your crossover.

Zuki:

Why guess if one can go bad or not? Just test the thing. If you don't have a meter then remove the resistor from the board and hook it up in series with any speaker. If the speaker plays, then your resistor is ok.

here is what i found so far

the choke although it appears to be soldered to board is not passing current

so i took a solder iron and heated the solder and the end of the choke moved a little

now after the solder cooled, i retested and it now makes sound through all the speakers

and now i have to put all the speakers back in to test if it works

my next question which would really help is.

since the speakers in both are all mixmatched

how can i determine which model is the original woofer that came in the speaker some have shields on them and some say vifa

but the part numbers don't all match

some even have inverted foam surround

i could order new replacement speakers as soon as i could confirm what goes in there from factory

i don't want to pay 87.00 or what ever each from the factory if i don't have to.

thank you

Perhaps you didn't read my reply from your other post
re: speakers in a BP 30 , anyway as I stated I purchased a
definative 6.5 drivers at Parts Express buy out special. It
was sheilded but was in fact DEFINATIVE ,through my searches
I've only found one dealer that comes close "SEAS " and at
madisound they have them on special and after looking at
the definative web sight i know there not the vifa's . Almost
all of their smaller drivers in those bipolor speakers have INVERTED SURROUNDS. Go to WWW.madisound .com and
click on "sale" scroll down to woofers and you'll at least get a
good look at them , there are many 6.5 from SEAS that are not
sheiled
