Talking My Adire Audio projects!

Ah yes... I've been holding out on you guys. Now I will post the mother load! In order from newest to oldest:

Adire Audio KIT281s
http://s95205514.onlinehome.us/gallery/KIT281
My first transmission line speaker, although it wasn't my design. I'm happy with the speakers. The sound great, get loud, and image well. The bass is nice, not overbearing but it extends pretty low. I find myself not turning on the sub all the time. I need to get some speaker spikes as they tilt on the carpet. $30 for the Dayton ones is holding me back though.

KIT LCC

The beastly center channel. Not sure how much it weighs, probably a good 50 pounds. I had to make a new addition to the TV stand to incorporate it

KIT51s

These started the other projects! I got them for my dad and then stole them as we don't have enough receivers at the moment Eventually I'll probably get some KIT81s to replace these in the rear.

Sonosub

8 cubic feet tuned to 16hz... gut wrenching lows for HT. I recently replaced the Tempest with my Brahma and got a QSC RMX 850. It gets quite loud. Can you say the drywall is rattling? I need to finish it and put in another port tube for the Brahma to raise the tuning slightly and give it more port area. Although I didn't notice much chuffing if any.

So what's next?
  • Build my friend's speakers (these http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=302-940 , we are building the enclosures and stuff to save money)
  • Flexi rack for receivers etc
  • Finish speakers (black fronts, cherry/mahogany sides?)
  • Behringer Feedback Destroyer
  • Avia disc and SPL meter to tune
  • Small, budget nearfield speakers for computer use (ideas?)

Thanks for looking and please leave any questions or comments

I like the center. Looks like it goes nice and deep.

Im kinda scared to put mine on the TV though, just because of the weight..

And those drivers normally dont have a dust cap right? Just the small one in the middle?

Oh yea, it goes deep both sonically and physically I wouldn't put a speaker of this size on my TV unless I had a BIG rear projection TV.

Yea, the AV8s just have the former cap (I believe that is it?), no dust caps. You can find specs on the drivers and designs at Adire's site: www.adireaudio.com

Try something like the "Helping Hands" for your soldering. Sometimes it takes 4 hands to holds parts, solder and an iron. It think Radio Shack carries similar products for comparison.

Congratualtions on finishing your project. Very commendable.

What gauge wire are you running in the internals of those speakers?

Thanks Tim, as you can tell from the pictures I was having some trouble I need to pick up some new soldering iron tips at RadioShack anyways.

haha, nope... Did you check my car audio stuff out too? I wear Adire underwear too... but that is prototype stuff I need to keep on the down low.

Some of the speakers use 14awg and others use 16awg, depending on where I ran out of the 14

Default Computer speakers

Ah yes, and computer speakers:

I'm thinking about getting some Tang-Band w3-871s speakers and running them in little 7" cubed ported speakers. Apex jr has a cheap $30 amp to power them. Then add in a sub... perhaps a Dayton 8" shielded DVC with a 10" PR. Could be cute. It fits the budget well, but the speakers are pretty boring. No crossovers or complex designs! It won't keep me busy long enough

Now I have an even better idea

5 of the TB 3" speakers each in ported, cube enclosures. Some sort of sub in a small sonotube enclosure. Now if only I could find a cheap 5.1 receiver. Something out of HTIB seems like it'd be perfect. I can't find any eBay though.

A 5.1 Acousticmass killer system would be great for my computer.
