Hi,
I'm new on this forum. I would ask you a couple of suggests. I've got a recording studio and i would build a pair of nearfield monitor for me. can you suggest me something better than my Yamaha NS-10.. I know, i will take that around but i would prefer something better. Have you got a not expensive, good way to make a new pair? thnk you Corrado from Italy |

Hi
In general it is difficult getting good price/performance ratio for DIY in the lower cost stuff, simply because of economies of scale... You can't really build a NS100 for the same price Yamaha sells it. There's probably a few people who can help tweak the NS100's X-over network with better caps and resistors, or better Inductors... ask around... Nice thing about DIY is that for not thatmuch more money than new selling price of NS100's you can build something way better. The other big plus of DIY is you can decide what's important in terms of sound and use for you and build to fit your room and taste. Check out driver manufacturer web-sites for kits - and of course this beautiful website... I think if you can build a nice sub-woofer satellite system with well designed X-overs... probably active... you could have very nice nearfield monitors with good low-frequency sound. Enjoy http://www.seas.no is nice example |
