Hi,

For anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area (or willing to drive to it), we are organizing a DIY event.

The event will be held on a Saturday and will include
-- Speaker Auditions: Bring your DIY speakers, listen to those of others!
-- Best Speaker Contest: The audience will rate and vote on the speaker which best meets its stated design goals (more details later)
-- Software Demos: demos of measurement, speaker CAD, crossover CAD, and digital crossover emulation (SoundEasy, Praxis, and potentially LSPCad Pro)
-- Crossover Design Contest: Using a set of fixed drivers, measurements for those drivers, and a fixed cabinet design, entrants design the best crossover for the set up. We’ll then demo the crossovers using SoundEasy’s and/or LSPCad’s crossover emulation capability. The audience will vote for the best sounding crossover.

We have identified a couple of locations in the East Bay as well as on the Peninsula. The best appears to be a university with facilities that include an AV projector system which will be very useful for the software demos. All facilities identified thus far are rental facilities and we expect charges to range from $15-20/attendee.

The best date for the event looks to be 9/18, followed closely by 9/25, 9/11, and 8/14. Since 8/14 is already fairly close, we are not likely to select that date.

If you are interested in joining in, and have not already emailed us, please send an email to ncaldiy04@yahoo.com . Please let us know which of the above dates would work best for you, let us know if you are going to bring speakers and/or can bring amps, CD players, etc. Also, if you are intimate with speaker CAD and/or measurement software and want to participate in the demo process please let us know.

If you know others who may be interested, please forward this message to them!

Finally, we are actively seeking sponsors for the event and are proud to have signed our first one. Thank you to Bodzio Software (SoundEasy) for their sponsorship of the event!
