I've been doing quite a bit of reding and learning lately, but somehow I'm still not sure-how come it matters what two drivers you choose for a 2-way system?
I mean, the tweeter has it's own encloser most of the time, and one builds the midrange it's own compartment to comply with the speaker's Qts and VAS, so as long as there are no pics at the crossover frequency, a speaker should convey all the sound (within the minimum boundary of the midrange and the maximum boundary of the tweeter) the same as another speaker made with different drivers (but with the same boundaries). I agree that, of cors, each driver sounds different from the other, but on it's own, I cant see how those differencies should effect the compatibility of the drivers. |

Hi,
if you are asking wether different speakers sound the same, the answer is obviously 'no'. There are just too much variables in driver construction and performance and designobjectives. Once a speaker is finished, there are several differences that relate to distortion, directivity, resonances and others. You can not make them all equal when you 'swap drivers', so there will always be differences. Does that answer your question?
