REL used to use Volt drivers in their higher range subs. Wilmslow Audio are a UK supplier of the bare Volt drive units and some kits using them.

And if you have a lower older model such as Q100 BK Electronics sell the 12 inch drive unit as the Elite/BSB 12-100. I also believe that BK were/are the OEM manufacturer of the plate amps used.

This would be a good time for you to upgrade your volt driver for a better Volt unit!

I would not recommend using another drive unit in the REL subwoofer as the box parametres are set for the Volt units and wont be so effect for other units, unless you make some adjustments?

You never mentioned way your changing your drive unit? did you damage it?

Maybe I was'nt clear on my posts, what I,m looking
for is a = or close woofer to the rel driver to make
my own sub. I built an mtm using close out drivers
from p.e. and I feel my velodyne is not quick enough!
My problem now is shipping etc. from the U.K. As
always I want to keep the cost down and get a great
woofer. Something fast and articulate any suggestions.

I understand now, i think the Adire guys make some impressive sounding woofers but there are so many, I have seen some very nice Daytons on Parts Express.com i would have a good look at there online store.
Shipping from Europe or the UK is very expensive and is not that much of a money saver.

Thanks Ice ! Well I,ve looked and like you said there
are soooo many to choose from I feel like I'm back at square
one. Any way given my budjet I narrowed it down to two,
the peerless xl 12" or dayton mk3 12" any input or opinons
maybe even someone used one. On some threads I heard
good and bad on the dayton and it seams that the peerless
is used in some pretty good systems but I would like to here
from dyi guys
