Another option is to drill loads and loads of small holes, and then cover with fabric.

For the big hole option, I have successfully used the semi-rigid fibreglass style of insulation, with a layer of cotton cloth on each side.

A different, semi-aperiodic style that works for mid range enclosures is to just make the box 1/3 wavelength of the lowest frequency required, leave the back open, and stuff it till it sounds good in your room.

Default hi

FYI from the Decware forum...

[qoute]One way to turn a vented loudspeaker enclosure into an Aperiodic vented enclosure is to simply stuff the existing port tube with Dacron fiber. Cut a strip of Dacron batting that is as wide as the port tube is deep. Roll it up tightly, and stuff the fiber into the port tube. Glue a piece of nylon furniture mesh over both ends of the tube to hold the fiber in place.

The enclosure will no longer exhibit the dual impedance peaks characteristic of vented box designs. Instead, the impedance curve will resemble that of a typical sealed box, but the single impedance peak will be reduced in amplitude compared to the same woofer in a sealed box of the same size...[\qoute]
