i havent tried them when fitted in the enclosure yet. i wouldnt have thought that at very low levels not having the speaker attached to the cab would produce such a complete lack of low freqs??

I *think* an 8 inch woofer starts rolling off at 6 dB / oct at about 500 Hz.
