Im helping someone find a replacement tweeter for a Kef Model 104 that he wants to fix and sell. I assume it will be next to impossible to find an original driver so a suitable substitute will have to do. I haven't been able to find any useful info on the web. Hopefull someone here will have some thoughts on an appropriate replacement.

thanks

btw, this is the model 104 from the 70s, not the reference 104/2

The tweeter is the KEF T27 I believe, has no modern equivalent.

To match the cutout diameter (nearly) you'll need a 1" tweeter,
standard size is 104mm, a little less than the T27's 108mm.

Mylar 1" are no longer made, I'd suggest a metal dome.

Is on sale at Madisound, and looks about right, with an L-pad.
Use some black beading around the 2mm that will be left
around the tweeter. Also fit an 8 ohm L-pad to the rear.
Make sure tweeter phasing is correct.

They are not impossible to find, but are much sought after, so not cheap.

So not really the way you want go for resale, recouping costs
will be extremely difficult. IMO a neat job with the Seas is the
way to go, also IMO the Seas will be an upgrade over the T27.

IMO Falcon Acoustics do not stock a suitable unit, and will not
be able to do any better than my suggestion for a replacement.

Having the original tweeter fitted is more of an issue with the
KEF 104aB crossover, which is precisely tuned to the T27, which
implies the 104 crossover isn't, so substitution is less of an issue.

Also note my suggestion of the Seas is not a result of sticking
a pin in a donkey, its a carefully considered recommendation,
(but you must use the L-pad or equivalent resistors).

For you Canadians the Praudio option is obviously the
one to go for if only one tweeter has met its demise.

End of story .......

I never considered that the post was considering replacing
only one tweeter with a substitute, this is not a good idea.
