Default 2 amps?

If a have a SSVC 4 ohm subwoofer can i run 2 mono plate amps to it and have nothing bad happen? Will they each see the 4 ohm load? Im wondering, because i can get more power for less out of 2 amps.

If it's a dual voice coil sub you can hook an amp up to each voice coil, but if it is a single voicecoil sub there's no easy way to wire 2 seperate amps up to it.

yes. Then, you would hook up one amp to each vc. Each amp will see the impedence of the coil connected to it, which would be 4 ohms.

I'd reconsider this move. For one thing using two amps will only give a potential total output increase of 3dB, which is usually not worth the effort or expense. But what's more important is that larger amps of equal quality tend to have lower per watt cost, so what you get for more money is not only more power but also higher quality.

If you've found a bargain basement price on a plate amp chances are it isn't very good sonically. Or, to put it in more pedestrain terms, buying two pieces of crap won't give you one nice amp- just a bigger piece of crap.

When it comes to quality of sound an amps wattage rating is the last thing to be considered; what counts is signal to noise ratio and useable dynamic headroom, and that's where cheap amps cease to be a bargain.

Well, im pretty sure its not a pos, considering it is Cerwin Vega, and they are a pretty good brand. Its the fullrange amps at apexjr. They are 50 for a pair. Then about 50 more for new toroids, and 10-15 for some 10k uf caps.

I'm not familiar with CV amps, but even if it is a good rig again uisng two only gets you another 3dB. The human ear responds to a 10dB increase as a doubling of apparant level. Doubling of wattage is barely audible and not worth the extra cost or complexity.

The amplifiers can be connected in parallel as long as each
has a series resistor (0.22R ?) to take care of any dc offsets.
They will not each see the 4 ohm load, each will see 8 ohm,
so if output ~ doubles into 4 ohm compared to 8 ohm it
seems a fairly pointless exercise.

The amplifiers can be bridged, in this case they will each see
a 2 ohm load, so again fairly pointless unless the amplifiers
can handle 2 ohm well (not very likely).

Note : the CW amps are not $50 a pair, they are $50 for the c/o & amplifier pairing.
Add $25 for a transformer and $8 for capacitors. With 65V rails and 4 ohms loading plently enough juice.
