Default 2nd diy sub project

Hi
I am looking to make a high power sub for PA use that will provide enough bass for a hall thats around 18m by 12m but i only have enough room for 1 sub (max size 800mm by 600mm by 500mm) in my car could i build a LOUD efficient horn this size?
The speaker i have for this project is a zeuz 18" 500 watts taken from the old sub that wasnt a success LOL(i have no idea about the parameters).
Any ideas on designs ?
Do i need a massive box to get really low bass that can be felt ?

cheers
Rob

download WinISD, that'll work everything out for you & plot line for each volume.

Not for a horn it won't. There's a lot of people here who can help though. - Try a search on horn response (I think that's what it's called)

For the size box you are able to use you won't be able to use a horn because the 18" driver is so large that there isn't enough room left over for the horn. If you must keep the 18 you're best off going with a vented box. You can get far better result with a folded horn but in your available space you'll have to use one loaded with a ten or twelve.

Bill hit it on the head...a 12" will do much the same at better size efficiency.

Also i noticed you dont know the t/s specs.
either measure them (www.diysubwoofers.org)

,or chuck it on a box ,perhaps 4cubes tuned to 42hz and see what happens!

without specs you can only guess.

solid 40hz reproduction suprises people, they think its real low....sometimes im even foold,i have to check the FFT of the tune to see its not 30hz,but 40!

The van isn't necessary; my HT horn loaded sub measures only 45 cm cubed, but obviously it doesn't use an eighteen; it uses an eight. My pro-sound sub measures 60 cm cubed; it's loaded with a ten. The whole point of horns is to get high output from small drivers. Direct radiator boxes use large drivers because they have to; horns use small drivers because they are able to.
