Classical approach is natural material(wood), but companies have come up with modern materials, MDF being the popular one. Some use metals, others use plastic enclosures(where LF is not a concern). Even composites like mineral matrix...i think composite material is most suitable coz it has best of both worlds, rigid and good dampening properties, another plus is they can be formed into any shape!!
