Hi All,
I'm relatively new here, but I have searched the inet and this forum and I can't find what I'm looking for so I decided to post this question. I'd like to build a pair of rear surrounds to match my Von Schweikert VR3's. These speakers use a slightly modified version of the Audax HM130CO. I'm not sure which tweeter they use, possibly the Focal TD120? I'd like to build a pair of two (or 2.5) way speakers that use the Audax driver, but I can't find a DIY project online that uses this exact driver. Does anyone know of a project that uses this driver? I found this link which gives a very detailed building program of the Audax A652 by Ralph Calabria, but the midwoofer is the slightly larger HM170CO and the tweeter is no longer available. I'd consider building this speaker, but I don't know how to do crossover's and I would have no idea where to start with selecting another tweeter. Ideally, I'd like to build a 2.5 way speaker with the HM130CO driver using the same tweeter that Von Schweikert used in his VR3. If this project isn't easily available, then I'm wondering if anyone has feedback with regards to the tonal difference between the HM130CO and the HM170CO, and which tweeter I could substitute in the above link that might come close to the VR3 tweeter. Many thanks, Jim |

Hi Jim,
I picked up a couple of the modified HM130C0's your talking about on special a while ago and have plans to make a 3 way using them and maybe some satellites too. Hifi world used the unmodified versions of these midwoofers for their KLS3 speakers found here: http://www.worldaudiodesign.com Look under the Loudspeakers section. They also made the smaller KLS10's using the HM170C0. Apparently the whole range of these drivers share the same tonal characteristics so you should be fine to use the larger drivers. Judging from people's comments well designed speakers using these drivers can sound amazing which is why I bought them. |

Thanks! I talked to Von Schweikert today and I can still order the tweeter that was in the VR3 from them. I think it's the same tweeter as in the speaker kit in your link....
