Hi
I am seeking your help on a decission which woofer to choose. Project is an active 3 way with MDM 55 and OWI as discussed before. xover is thought to be around 700Hz. Optimally, my woofer needs a small enclosure, has a fast energy release, a stiff membrane and less then 3% 3rd and 0,3 % 5th harmonics at 96 dB.... well.... And of course my speaker is meant to be cheap.... I have considered the Seas Aluminiums, the Visaton Al200 and GF200, the Usher 8'' and the Audax HDA 8''. I am planning to use two of them, therefore linearization to 40Hz should be theoretically possible. Any experiences and thought or comments? Would you rather invest more money for either the Excel or Scanspeaks (old 8554 as in Linkwitzes Phoenix or the new 23T) or Etons? Thank you very much for any help Leif |

The W22EX isn't cheap, but check out the distortion figures here.
http://seas.no/excel_line/excel/E0022.pdf They're measured at 96dB SPL @ 1m (7.1W as indicated in the table above the frequency response chart). |

Hi,
thanks, I have seen them, however I would like to know whether the Seas perform equivalent, since I suspect both to be quite similar. regards, leif |

Sorry I noticed I haven't mentioned it is going to be CC and the distortion should be like that at 40 Hz....

ma be I should go for the 2x10'' (Excel or Seas) and add a 6'' to make it 4 way... 2nd order at 100/120 Hz should be inaudible according to my DCX experiments.
BTW, I've been thinking about for a while, what does THD stand for? Threshold or Total Harmonic Distortion (beeing the integral of all harmonics at a vertain frequency? Best Regards, Leif |
