Hey all, im using my computer alot lately and these $40 computer speakers are horrible, id like to build a pair of small sats (cheaply) and run them straight off the existing speakers amplifier. for a sub i will just tap straight into my HT sub which is located in the same room.
What ever i get needs to be readily available in australia, also i would like small, was thinking the new 2" wide range that jaycar are selling. |

Use two a side as 0.5 ways and balance for a semblance of mid bass.

Those are perfect if you don't need loud midbass. |

Yeah i have seen this before, I was just looking for a smaller aproach, i dont even mind compromising, plus the TB are not the easiest to get in AUS. those cost about $40 each to get here.
But i will investigate them urther as before i did not see his smaller design which would suit me much better. But if you guys have any other ideas please let me know, i would still like to investigate the posibilities in doing very small boxes ..... bose size/logitech size. cheers |

Just build a set of PC speakers with a Visaton FR10 4ohm in a 2,9 liter BR enclosure. Br are double 16mm internal 70mm long
For 6,94 Euro's ex VAT they are a steal and go down to approx 65-70 Hz so integration with a sub is no problem. Even without sub they are quite good in basextension. Beter than any commercial pc speaker I've herad so far

Hi Michael
You can get funky and creative and just use plumbing pipe fittings....... instant enclosure and looks cool. Made these in a couple of hours (ordinary drivers though) but work surprisingly well. There are so many different pipe fittings available and I just chose a 45º as it was the right volume and pointed towards my seated position. A bit of perforated metal for grills. |

Hi RAW
There's a 10mm piece of PVC pipe that's glued inside the elbow behind the driver and acts as a mounting recess. A double sided adhesive strip sits on this and the driver pressed on. Can't remember what the stuff is called but it's black, about 1mm thick, sticky as hell and doesn't ever go hard..... a bit like a bitumous product. I suppose Bostik would do the same job. The perforated metal was just cut in a circle larger than required, slits cut on the outside and a bit a panel beating over a MDF driver cutout which happened to be the right size. Fit snuggly in the recess between the driver OD and rubber surround. Here's a rough pic. |

het rabbitz long time no see, tried emailing you a week or 2 ago but it failed to send, anyway, what drivers did you use in those pipes, and got any opinions of those 2" drivers jaycar have aside from the fact that they want 140L to get down to 200z

Hi Michael
Changed the email address as I had a security breech at eBay. The new address is on record here. I can't remember what the drivers were, just something I had laying around that I pulled out of whatever. Just doped them and did some test volumes to see what sounded better (about 1 litre sealed with longhair wool), still nothing special but the idea worked. I can't see a new 2" driver in the new Jaycar catalogue..... got a link? I'd go for some Vifa TC11's as almost like a full ranger or the PAE 11SG which is basically the same driver but heaps cheaper. You could always use a Dai-1Chi full ranger with a whizzer. How's your speaker projects going? |
