Default Are there any non-round base drivers still in Production?

Well, as the title says, does anyone know if there are any oval/rectangular bass drivers out there that are still in production (and are of decent quality, not car drivers)?

As after seeing some of the KEF B139 drivers on ebay, I decded that it might be nice if I could find something simmilar to put in the speakers I was planning on building, (based on two audax A100Z0 4" unints and a tweeter which I havent decided on yet) where I would like to keep the front baffle to only around 150mm (6") wide.

I have seen similar shaped drivers on the newer Q series of KEF loudspeakers, but have not managed to find these drivers by themselfs anywhere yet (or even what the part numbers may be). So if anyone has any information on these or anything else that you all may think is suitable I would realy appreciate you telling me.

Andrew.

Tangband makes a 6x9 sub; 8ohms.

I've bought two, but have yet to even test them, so I cannot say how well they perform/sound.

Bought mine at www.nuera-acoustic.ca

B&O are using oval bass drivers...dunno where they get them from though, but that should not be too hard to find out.

Lusso%, thanks for that pointer, it almost looked like it could have been the one, but I just put into winISD and it looks like it would only give me about one or two extra dB's from about 70Hz, and down, so probably isnt' worth the extra expense for this particular one.

Huh ? how do you work that out ?

Vas ~ 3L vs ~ 30L and Fs 80hz vs 35Hz, Q ~ 0.6 vs 0.33.

The TB models well in 20L tuned to 33Hz, the AP100Z0 doesn't get close.

Why would you want an irregular shaped driver? (it's irregular from my perspective.)

Because he wants to keep his baffle only 6" wide, but he wants a bass speaker with more cone radiating area than a 6" speaker can provide. And he doesn't want to go to two woofers, (which, if you consider them as a unit, would constitute a really irregularly shaped speaker).

Two companies that might make auto speakers, but also make highly rated home speakers and so might be worth taking a chance on their 6 by 9's:

Infinity and MB Quart.
