Here are my latest 2 pairs of dipoles. The arrays use cheap drivers with Shiva's boxed in the bottom. The 2nd pair is Adire HE8.1's on top using the Adire Xover and 4 6" TV drivers in a push pull W baffle in the bottom with a 1st order roll-off at 100hz. I used a very heavy hard wood called Cenizaro and the beautiful grain will really stand out once a add the finish. They are truely one of a kind, since it is now illegal to cut these trees.
I've found that the space saving swept back wings and polyfill stuffing in the back make placement close to the back wall work quite well. I'm in the process of making similar, but more compact dipoles for my surrounds and center channel.

These look really good. Could you post some pictures of the back? I'd like to see what you did with the polyfill.

Here are the backs. The arrays have a thin layer of polyfill behind the drivers covered with a 1/2" layer of foam rubber. I did some experimenting with the HE8.1's and the back will have a thin layer of foam rubber on the wings and top. Then around the back of the top driver I'll put polyfill held in place with a thin stretchy material which will also hide the crossover components. I found that this makes placement much less crutial. With no damping at some back wall distances I was getting some cavity sounds. With very close proximity to the back wall, I find a small loss of soundstage depth.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it is very important that the baffle "wings" are of different lengths. I could hear only a little difference having the short wings on the outside or inside, so I've decided to keep the long wings on the outside which hides the guts of the speaker better.

Thanks, that gives me some ideas for my own project.
