Default DIY In-Wall TangBand 871's?

First off, is it possible to make some decent-sounding in-wall speakers on your own? (This is to improve the WAF of the speaker-building project, of course.)

Secondly, is it possible to do this with the TangBand 871's?

Thanks,
Chris

A possibility is to build a front vented cabinet inside the wall of correct volume. One of the Jordan designs calls for a wall mounted cabinet with the drivers angled, similar to "toeing in" floorstanding cabinets, to improve imaging. I've not done it but my understanding is that stereo imaging can suffer with IB installations. Based on the number of in-wall applications I wonder how much of that is true.

I have built dozens of speakers using the wall as my cabinet designing the braces to make the proper volume of airspace. It is 13"x3.5"x the height needed to get the volume of box for the driver used. They can be great if done right.

Any example designs/pictures? I really would like to see some end results to show the wife.

I would actually think it'd look cool to have the silver 871's not mounted flush to appear to be "floating" in the wall. I may have quite a bit of space to play with here, because of the way this particular area is built into the house.
