All,
do bass and midrange drivers intergrate better if they are of the same cone material? is there a time delay/phase adj circuit that can be intergrated into the ESP active X-overproject09 to further aid the bass-mid intergration process? would this totally negate my first Q? Cheers Mark |

IMO the "same material" is a fallacy, its not a major issue.
Your second question : At bass / mid crossover frequiencies wavelength driver offset is minimal compared to the inherent phase shifts of the crossover. Time delay is only relevant to mid / tweeter integration. Phase delay / manipulation is an inherent part of the crossover design, again driver offset only needs considering for M-T c/o. |

Hi,
I was on the understanding that i would have minimal phase shift problems from the crossover because it is phase coherent Any idea how i'd intergrate phase manipulation into aformentioned active X-over for M-T c/o. As i guess i'll still need it for that c/o? Cheers Mark |

That I hesitate to disagree with him _grin_
I have learned more than one or two things from Sreten's posts, but I gotta disagree on this one point - Quote:
Using a digital crossover, I set the delay initially by measuring and then to confirm, I had my wife spin the dial while I listened. As the delay increased, the sound from the subs seemed to be physically moving upward toward the horns above. When it sounded as if the subs were coming out of the center of the horns above them, I stopped. Of course what is happening is that the horns are reproducing the overtones and the subs are blending with overtones. Crossing at 133 hz, 52 DB NTM slope Regards Ken L

This is just the sort off feedback i've had from previous posts Ken.
"A crossover that sums electrically will not sum acoustically", and suchlike. So, i have taken heed of this advice and that's why i'm looking for something that can give adjustable delay to my active analogue X-overs. Although in truth, i'm finding my current active 300Hz crossover pretty seamless. Regards Mark |

If your digital c/o has the facility by all means use it, it gives you an extra degree of freedom in the crossover design. However even with a 14" offset using passive crossovers the best you can do is manipulate the phase response of the c/o, for bass to mid c/o a delay network is out of the question. |
