Any success with dome midrange?

Have been doing some modelling on both the Jaycar & Vifa dome mids (3") and it seems the xover to woofer integration is really tricky requiring higher order low-pass on the woofer.

Yes it is extremely tricky as c/o is usually in the middle of baffle step.

Added to that fundamantal resonance suppression and excursion
limits of the mid-dome also need careful consideration.

An "off the shelf" crossover as suggested by Jaycar is an utter no-no.

Definitely wouldnt go for an 'off-the shelf' xover.
I seem to get reasonable response using both resonance & impedance Eq, but the parts count for xover gets a bit on the high side (8 components).

I think the dome midrange could be used in the
center of a waveguide to overcome the baffle problem.
There is one thing to note though: The dome must
not be soft material or you will end up with distortion.
Soft domes are not suitable to waveguides.
Aluminium or titanium dome should work (I suppose).
I haven't tried a waveguide with a dome midrange yet,
but I suspect that it might work with no problem
(of course by assuming that there is also a similarly
sized and shaped waveguide for the tweeter driver).

There is some good design using dome midrange such as Vifa D75, Morel MDM 55 or LPG textile dome. But I never heard them.
It is sure that crossover design is easier with a cone mid but the dome design is nevertheless attractive....
